As background, The CHAOS Report of 1994 documented sobering statistics: 31.1 percent of projects cancelled, 52.7 percent "challenged" (completed over budget and/or behind schedule), and just 16.2 percent successful. An updated report, Chaos Manifesto2011, re-examines the CHAOS Success Factors and shows improvements.

There are some people who challenge the findings of the CHAOS reports. Samad Aidane has written a blog post, titled The Chaos Report My Busters which cites research results that conflict with the Chaos Report.
