Acucorp Continues To Support HP e3000 Users

Company responds to HP's Five-Year Transition Plan for HP e3000 Customers
San Diego, CA - November 14, 2001

San Diego, CA - November 14, 2001 - Acucorp today renewed its commitment to the Hewlett-Packard Company and HP e3000 server users in response to the announcement that HP will advise its e3000 customers to transition to other HP open standard server platforms. Acucorp will maintain its robust COBOL environment for all HP products. As an international provider of application extension solutions that solve mission-critical business issues, Acucorp's extend(tm)5 family of solutions provides such COBOL modernization technologies as Internet deployment, COBOL-based graphical user interface (GUI) development, COBOL access to Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) data, distributed computing and programmer productivity tools. In addition, with Acucorp's recent release of Version 5.2 of extend5, HP users can soon receive enhanced support for the HP e3000 running on MPE and POSIX.

"Like HP's e3000 users, Acucorp has made a significant investment in this platform as well as the COBOL programs that run on it," says Dr. Pamela Coker, President and CEO of Acucorp. "We fully intend to support this server, and the HP community, by providing innovative solutions that will enable users to remain competitive - both now and in the future."

For developers planning to maintain their current e3000 server capabilities, Acucorp will offer added support for HP COBOL extensions and HP Intrinsics, thereby providing direct access to Image, VPLUS and many other third party offerings. Other e3000-specific software technologies will include:

  • COBOL-based GUI development, allowing programmers to easily transform their character-based screens into graphical ones.
  • Thin client technology, permitting applications hosted in MPE/iX to display a full Windows GUI with a single source code base line.
  • Internet deployment, giving developers the ability to web-enable their existing COBOL assets and make their data Internet ready.
  • Distributed computing, enabling programmers to put their data where it's most accessible, easily maintained and secure.
  • A powerful debugger and Windows IDE, including an ANSI compliant COBOL development system that incorporates a compiler, runtime, debugger and support utilities.
  • Support for Acucorp products under both MPE and POSIX.

"Acucorp's innovative solutions provide our customers with a variety of migration options and alternatives to modernizing and enhancing their COBOL-based programs," explains Randy Roten, Research and Development Project Manager, HP Customer Support.. "We are confident in their ability to provide long-term, continued support for our HP e3000 users interested in maintaining their current server capabilities or migrating to other HP platforms."

In addition to supporting HP programmers who maintain their current server capabilities, Acucorp's software solutions will permit e3000 users to migrate their existing applications and databases to different platforms. Currently available on more than 600 platforms, including the HP 9000 server line, Acucorp's extend5 product line supports such operating systems as UNIX, Linux and the Windows environment.
