Acucorp to Support Itanium(tm) Processor Family Architecture

San Diego, CA - May 30, 2001

Acucorp, Inc., an international provider of legacy extension solutions for COBOL applications, today announced support for Intel'sŪ new Itanium processor family architecture. At the same time, Acucorp is proud to announce an agreement with Hewlett Packard to support Itanium-based HP-UX and Linux platforms.

Acucorp's extend 5 family of solutions allows software developers to leverage their investments in COBOL applications by transforming inherited applications into modern systems. These solutions are available for hundreds of computing platforms, including the HP 9000, and offer a combination of products and services for enabling Internet deployment, graphical COBOL transitions, data access, distributed computing, and programmer productivity.

Supporting the latest technology is critical to Acucorp's growing list of worldwide end users and ISV customers, and the Itanium processor family architecture represents a tremendous innovation in open system computing performance. "The port to the Itanium processor family architecture is another testament to Acucorp's commitment to supporting future computing platforms," said Dr. Pamela Coker, President and CEO of Acucorp, Inc. "Acucorp was built around the foundation of providing write once - run anywhere COBOL, and that strategy remains at the core of our solution offerings today."

"From the beginning, Acucorp set out to make things flexible for the developer and a particular focus has always been to make cross-platform programming much more transparent than it normally is, providing a great convenience to application developers," said Drake Coker, Chief Scientist at Acucorp. "Even if programmers don't initially plan on developing for multiple platforms, it is often later discovered that flexibility is required. With ACUCOBOL-GT, platform flexibility is built in and programmers are in a position to automatically take advantage of it."

The object files produced by ACUCOBOL-GT are 100% portable to the more than 600 platforms supported by Acucorp. This capability allows applications that must run in multiple environments to be easily developed and maintained with a single set of source code - without the need for platform specific modifications and/or recompilation. As a result, ACUCOBOL-GT provides insurance against future hardware obsolescence, making it possible to upgrade to a new platform without changing a single line of application source code. This unique feature allows developers who provide programs for multiple platforms to significantly reduce their ongoing maintenance costs while at the same time extending the life of the user's software investment.
