New Windows-based COBOL development tool

The company is a new software company created to assist Windows-based programmers with their COBOL needs. Their goal is to provide valuable tools that will save developers time, effort and money during the course of their development process.

As COBOL continues to become more popular on Client Servers and Personal Computers there is an increasing need for utility software. This need is also increased by the complexity of modern COBOL. The company hopes to provide the necessary tools for today's COBOL needs.

SHELF.CBL is a new product that provides various tools to Windows-based programmers using standard COBOL (must be at least ANSI-85).

The following is a list of tools and their descriptions incorporated in this software:

• Clean WORKING-STORAGE - This option deletes selected fields in WORKING-STORAGE that are not used within the program, including copybooks.
• Convert report - Choose this option to convert output lines of a report into output lines in WORKING-STORAGE. Within the editor provided with this option, you can design each output line as they would appear on the report. Then by simply clicking Convert, these lines are converted into COBOL code. Obviously, this is much easier than designing the report using a coding sheet or attempting to design the report as you code.
• Count the bytes in a group field - Use this option to count the number of bytes in a group item. For example, a level 01 group item may have 5 level 03 fields underneath that are 10 bytes each. The size of the level 01 field would be 50 bytes.
• Global search - Select this option to look for a specified word within a program. The program and all copybooks within the program are searched.
• Inflate program - Choose this option to create a copy of a program with the actual code from the copybooks included in the program.
• Program summary - This option creates a summary report for a specified program which includes information such as, file names, copybooks, procedures and file information.
